About

We Stand For The Flag is a line from the Dusty Collins song "Stand For The Flag" which became popular on TikTok in late 2021 to show support for something. While the song's original intent was about American patriotism, on TikTok it quickly had the meaning be changed to mean support for anything that you can get on a flag, no matter how outrageous or silly of a pop culture reference.

Origin

On November 4th, 2020, Dusty Collins released his country song "Stand For The Flag" which is entirely based around the literal message of supporting the American Flag. Less than a year later, in May of 2021, the TikToker Jayden McCoy[1] would upload a now deleted TikTok using the audio, allowing others to easily make their own TikToks with it. One of the most popular early examples was done by the TikToker Leandramya[2], who on July 4th uploaded a TikTok (duetted on the right) unironically supporting the flag and patriotism (shown below).

Spread

On August 25th, 2021, the most popular version of the meme would drop, with the TikToker themartin_effect[3] duetting Trisha Paytas in her video waving the nonbinary flag, with him screaming "GO LAKERSSS" as he misinterprets the nonbinary flag as a Gold and Purple Lakers flag, earning over 1.1 million likes in 17 months (shown below).

As the audio format started to spread, so did the types of flags used, with custom flags being ordered from different sites such as BabeFlag specifically for these trends. One example of many was uploaded on September 21st, 2021 by the TikToker tanleymiller1[4], which showed a "I <3 Dilfs" flag as the one that they stand for, earning over 300,000 likes in 15 months (shown below).
