What a Nerd and We Always Loved This or Fuck Off Nerd refers to an exploitable Wojak comic in which the laughing girls Wojaks are shown laughing at a nerd in the 1980s for liking superheroes and fantasy, captioned "what a nerd," followed by the same girls, this time surrounded by Stranger Things and Marvel imagery, laughing at someone from the 2020s, captioned, "oh we always loved this!" The comic was posted in 2022 and inspired several edits over the following years, also inspiring discourse about women embracing media that has been stereotypically defined as "nerdy" in the past.

Origin

On October 9th, 2022, X^[1] user @EpicVerseStudio posted a Wojak comic in which, on the top half, a Wojak with glasses representing a 1980s nerd, surrounded by a Spider-Man comic and a Dungeons and Dragons book, faces two laughing girls, captioned, "fuck off nerd." On the bottom half, the same image is depicted only with the male Wojak surrounded by nothing and the girls surrounded by Stranger Things and Marvel imagery. The girls are captioned, "oh we always loved this." The post gained over 13,000 likes and 5,100 reposts in just over a year (shown below).

Spread

The comic inspired discourse that month through the quote-reposts. On October 11th, 2022, X^[2] user @JesseCox quote-reposted the meme, writing, "Let me say, AGAIN, I will never understand why nerdy men get upset by women showing interest in the same things. My brother in nerdom, you've got common ground now. You should be thrilled. And this example makes no sense. No 22 year old girl was mocking nerds in the 80s," garnering over 1,500 likes in just over a year (shown below, left).

On the same day, X^[3] user @sweetposting posted an edit of the meme replacing the media around the Wojaks with Bladee albums, garnering over 7,000 likes in the same span of time (shown below, right).

On February 7th, 2024, Instagram^[4] meme creator Tony Zaret posted an edit of the meme referencing mpreg memes, garnering over 9,000 likes in a day (shown below). He also posted the meme to X,^[5] garnering over 6,700 likes in the same span of time.

On February 8th, Redditor u/SimpleButFun posted a new version of the meme to /r/memes^[6] criticizing the sentiment shared in the original iteration of the meme, garnering over 2,500 upvotes in under 24 hours (shown below).
