About

My Parents at Age 29 or My Parents in Their 20s is an image macro meme comparing the values, attitudes and financial opportunities of people in their 20s and 30s from the past and modern people of the same age. Written from the perspective of millennials and juxtaposing their life experiences against that of their parents, the meme uses the Trad Girl and Yes Chad meme characters to embody those relationships. The top portion represents the parents and features Trad Girl suggesting a major life change that requires financial stability and responsibility to Yes Chad, who agrees. On the bottom half of the meme, labeled "Me at Age X," the meme depicts Yes Chad or Trad Girl doing something irresponsible, immature or reflective of the poor financial standing of modern-day millennials.

My Parents in their early adulthood: "Oh boy, time to do a small, decently paying job and interact with people that aren't paranoid, media-controlled nutjobs that act like schizos off their meds."

Proceeds to get married in their mid-20's and have kids shortly after.

Me in my early adulthood:

  • >I can choose between crippling student debt for a degree in a field I have no interest in or do numerous odd jobs for practically nothing.
  • >Everyone is on edge constantly and spouting buzzwords and politics nonstop, making dating and social interaction in general more futile than extinguishing the Sun.
  • >Not like anyone shares my one true interest anyways, living a slow and quiet family life focused on child-rearing.
  • >All others seem to care about is working themselves to death and wondering where their lives went.
  • >Every year since I'm slowly turning into more and more of a NEET.
  • >Nothing I do changes anything.
  • >No amount of time shows any signs of improvement.
  • >I can't even focus on my hobbies to maybe make something out of them.

…But at least I'm egotistically and narcissistically optimistic to the point of being constantly in a good mood, my happiness may be all I really have, but at least I'm happy.
