About
What's Up You Meme Loving Fuck is a catchphrase used as part of a greeting to someone who deeply enjoys memes, intended to be a humorous label and typically more prominent in earlier meme culture. During the time when memes were significantly less mainstream during the early 2010s, its use was both ironic in referring to a friend jokingly and unironic as noting that you understand the person is tied to deeper web culture.
Origin
On August 8th, 2013, Tumblr user itwashotwestayedinthewater posted[1] an image of a Skype message notification from a user named "Daniel" reading "whats up you meme loving fuck". The post received over 12,000 notes in nine years.
The same phrase used was the main way in which the meme was said in the following years, with different texts and variations becoming prominent later on after it spread.
Spread
The catchphrase continued to spread in the following years as it was added to various image macros or used separately. For example, on March 12th, 2015, the Imgur user Chumbawompski[2] uploaded a GIF of a dog sitting on a chair with the phrase being said one frame at a time, with different words appearing on consecutive frames, receiving over 73,000 views in seven years. This GIF was then eventually converted into a full image with the phrase, uploaded on June 15th, 2015, receiving over 2,500 views in a similar timeframe (shown below).
On January 16th, 2018, the Imgur user eneuman96[3] uploaded an image using letters from different Disney and Pixar movies to recreate the phrase, getting over 2,100 views in four years (shown below).
