The original meme was posted to Instagram in November 2021 and features the phrase "who up wonking they willy rn" over an image of Willy Wonka and inspired variations over the course of the year.

Origin

On November 7th, 2021, Instagram^[1] user corporatefiend posted an image macro of Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka captioned "who up wonking they willy rn," a humorous reference to the character's name arranged to sound like a reference to masturbation, gaining over 3,500 likes in a month (shown below). They posted a watermarked version later that month.

The "wonking my willy" meme was reposted numerous times following its original upload to Instagram, notably by Instagram^[2] page epicjoko on November 19th, gaining over 203,000 likes in a month and by Facebook^[3] page Images that’ll send you straight to hell on November 22nd, gaining over 3,400 reactions and 1,400 shares in a comparable span of time. On November 29th, Instagram^[4] page frogseatingass posted a meme using a variation of the phrase over an image of Hank Schrader from Breaking Bad reading "who up Hanking they Schrader rn," gaining over 11,000 likes in two weeks (shown below).

On December 2nd, Instagram^[5] page nova_xeno posted a version of the meme using Walt Junior's name, gaining over 8,300 likes in two weeks (shown below, left). On December 3rd, Facebook^[6] page Wedge Antilles posted a Star Wars version with an image of Yoda, gaining over 340 reactions in the same span of time (shown below, right).
