Whoever Threw That Paper, Your Mom's A Hoe is a viral video of a substitute teacher yelling at a classroom after a student threw a piece of paper at him. It was originally a YouTube video posted in late 2014 but quickly spread to Vine where it became more prominent. As the video aged, it spread to memes on TikTok where it became both a sound effect and a catchphrase.

Origin

The video was originally posted to YouTube^[1] and Instagram ^[2] by a user who went by the handle @blackboul20. As of 2022, @blackboul20 goes by @MrForbes24 on both Twitter^[3] and YouTube.^[4] The original link to the video has since been deleted, however, on November 8th, 2014, Vine^[5] user Meagan reposted the video and titled it, "Whoever threw that paper .. 💀😂😂😂😂😂😂." Over the course of eight years, the vine received roughly 18.8 million loops and 78,200 likes (shown below).

Additionally, years later, on February 24th, 2020, MrForbes24, whose real name is Kevin Forbes, posted a video to his YouTube channel wherein he outlined the history behind the video. He stated in it that he was in 11th grade when he filmed it after walking into a classroom he was not a part of just before the bell. He said that the substitute was known as a "cool teacher" and after he recorded it, he posted it on YouTube. This explainer video received roughly 10,400 views over the course of two years (shown below, left). MrForbes24's original post, on the other hand, was uploaded to the platform on December 22nd, 2014, a month after Vine user Meagan's repost. Over the course of eight years, his YouTube video received roughly 10.1 million views and 366,000 likes (shown below, right).

Spread

According to Forbes, the video trended on YouTube throughout November and December 2014 outside his knowledge. The first viral repost he witnessed was from hip-hop artist and rapper Ludacris, however, this repost has since been deleted. This prompted him to reupload the video in late December 2014, retitling it for better SEO.

The video was reworked into multiple video memes going into 2015. For instance, on June 27th, 2015, YouTuber^[6] Dante Jones edited the video into Supa Hot Fire's viral video, earning roughly 90,300 views over the course of seven years (shown below, left). On September 13th, 2015, YouTube channel Ted Vine posted a video that reworked the sound effect into a video from SpongeBob, earning roughly 442,900 views over the course of seven years (shown below, right).

The video was used in memes going into the early 2020s when it started being used on TikTok. For instance, on May 8th, 2021, a repost of the video from TikToker^[6] mrheyman1 earned roughly 1.6 million plays in one year (shown below, left). On January 11th, 2022, TikToker^[7] zaenxt posted a video in which he revealed his substitute teacher was the infamous "Whoever threw that paper" teacher, earning roughly 3.1 million plays and 569,800 likes in four months (shown below, right).
