About

Why The Hell Not?? refers to series of YouTube remix videos featuring still images of the anime series YuYu Hakusho with the song "Let's Go Gekiganger 3" by Para Para Mecha MAX played on the soundtrack. Variations of the meme feature different versions of the still images but generally keep the same song.

Origin

On May 3rd, 2008, YouTuber Kajtokun uploaded a video entitled "Why the hell not??" to YouTube.[1] The video features two still images of three characters from the anime television series YuYu Hakusho, with the song "Let's Go Gekiganger 3" by Para Para Mecha MAX on the soundtrack. The still images are rotated, reflected and zoomed in and out in rhythm to the song and with a colorful background frantically flashing and changing hue to underscore the fast-paced intensity of the Para Para Mecha MAX song. The video (shown below) received more than 350,000 views in nine years.

Spread

Within four days of Kajetokun's post, people began posting variations of the video, changing the characters but keeping the song. On May 7th, YouTuber[2] gf202020 posted a version featuring characters from the video game M.U.G.E.N. The post (shown below, left) received more than 1,700 views in nine years.

Two weeks later, YouTuber[3] The_H_Side posted a version featuring 3-D renderings of Luigi. The post (shown below, right) received more than 38,000 views in nine years.
