On August 30th, 2023, TikToker @recidivo^[1] posted a video in which a chicken is seen floating in a flooded area on a small raft. The audio "Wilson! Lo Siento!" from the Spanish dub of Castaway plays in the background. The video gained over 14 million views and 1.9 million likes in two and a half months (shown below).

Spread

The video began going viral some weeks later, with parodies appearing first in late October of 2023. On October 25th, Instagram account yabegitulahaha^[2] posted AI-generated movie posters for a movie about "Wilson" the chicken, gaining over 78,000 likes in three weeks (example shown below, top). On October 27th, TikToker alsh0056 posted a parody movie trailer based on the TikTok, gaining over 54,000 likes in two weeks (shown below, bottom).

The video saw additional parodies on TikTok in mid-November. On November 9th, TikToker Clinically_Insane18 posted a parody featuring Pedro Pascal Laughing Then Crying, gaining over 113,000 likes in one week (shown below, left). On November 14th, the PGA's official Twitter account used the audio along with videos of floating golf balls, gaining over 3,600 likes in one day (shown below, right).
