About

Gorlock the Destroyer is a nickname given to blogger Ali C. Lopez after her appearance on the Whatever Podcast next to smaller guests and cohosts in late April 2023. The nickname inspired widespread jokes and memes about her appearance, including videos in which her audio was replaced with the Star Wars character Jabba the Hutt.

Origin

On April 25th, 2023, the Whatever Podcast streamed its 69th episode of the podcast, titled "RAGEQUIT KEEKO vs. CHASE! Round 2! FIGHT! | Dating Talk #69" (shown below). The episode notably featured Ali C. Lopez as a guest.

On April 26th, Twitter user @RichardRatBoy1[1] then posted a tweet with an image of the podcast guests, joking that Lopez's name was "Gorlock the Destroyer" alongside other incorrectly named hosts. The tweet gained over 11,000 retweets and 150,000 likes in one week (shown below).

Spread

Later on April 26th, 2023, Twitter user @TheOnlyDSC posted an edited version of the clip that replaced Lopez's voice with Jabba the Hutt, gaining over 11,000 retweets and 76,000 likes in six days. The clip itself gained over 4.1 million views in one week (shown below). Their post suggests they were not the first person to make the video, but it is unclear who initially did.

Over the following days, jokes about "Gorlock the Destroyer" spread on Twitter and TikTok, where multiple users posted clips from the podcast and used the nickname. For example, on April 27th, TikToker @zenooc_oshits posted a clip from the podcast in which Lopez describes herself as a "baddie" with the caption (shown below, top). The same clip was posted to Reddit's /r/CringePurgatory[2] on April 30th, where it gained over 2,700 points in three days. On April 27th, TikToker @lonlykings posted an edit of the clip that gained over 220,000 likes in five days (shown below, bottom).
