About

Gorlock the Destroyer is a nickname given to blogger Ali C. Lopez after her appearance on the Whatever Podcast next to smaller guests and cohosts in late April 2023. The nickname inspired widespread jokes and memes about her appearance, including videos in which her audio was replaced with the Star Wars character Jabba the Hutt.

Origin

On April 25th, 2023, the Whatever Podcast streamed its 69th episode of the podcast, titled "RAGEQUIT KEEKO vs. CHASE! Round 2! FIGHT! | Dating Talk #69" (shown below). The episode notably featured Ali C. Lopez as a guest.

On April 26th, Twitter user @RichardRatBoy1[1] then posted a tweet with an image of the podcast guests, joking that Lopez's name was "Gorlock the Destroyer" alongside other incorrectly named hosts. The tweet gained over 11,000 retweets and 150,000 likes in one week (shown below).

Spread

Later on April 26th, 2023, Twitter user @TheOnlyDSC posted an edited version of the clip that replaced Lopez's voice with Jabba the Hutt, gaining over 11,000 retweets and 76,000 likes in six days. The clip itself gained over 4.1 million views in one week (shown below). Their post suggests they were not the first person to make the video, but it is unclear who initially did.

Over the following days, jokes about "Gorlock the Destroyer" spread on Twitter and TikTok, where multiple users posted clips from the podcast and used the nickname. For example, on April 27th, TikToker @zenooc_oshits posted a clip from the podcast in which Lopez describes herself as a "baddie" with the caption (shown below, top). The same clip was posted to Reddit's /r/CringePurgatory[2] on April 30th, where it gained over 2,700 points in three days. On April 27th, TikToker @lonlykings posted an edit of the clip that gained over 220,000 likes in five days (shown below, bottom).

      R-really? Would you really?

Like, this is too far for me, even as edgy joke… If you're being completely genuine, I both salute and am disgusted by you.

Being so morbidly obese that you resemble a hutt instead of a human, and being proud of it, is what's horrible. It's not just a mere acceptance of being an unhealthy weight, it's the pride in being that weight and active disdain for anyone who would dare to call you unhealthy. If someone looks disgusting and unhealthy but is a genuine and nice person, then it's just mean to bully them. If they act the way they look, then bully away.

I think one thing that this captures, which other 'haha ugly fat' insults doesn't, is just how much being severely obese deviates a person from the basic human shape. The juxtaposition with the thin girls is the kicker here, it's like looking at a different species. Hence the incongruous name instead of just blandly calling out the fatness directly.

Yeah, it's mean, but it's always worth analysing why this – out of all the billions of nasty insults spewed on the internet – is getting traction.

I'm pretty sure there is a theory that the reason why aversion to obesity exists is because they specifically go away from the standard human proportions and basically trigger a soft case of uncanny valley.

Historically being a bit plump has been a fairly good indicator of health and access to resources, but I don't think any culture has venerated actual obesity in good amounts.

      Not really.

It's the internet and from what I've heard, this is one of those "manosphere" type podcasts.
To quote Panuru about a previous subentry:

'What hellscape have we entered that "Anahy also says it's important for both partners in a relationship to communicate" gets her blasted?'

Not exactly shocking or a mystery as to why this kind of thing gains traction.

Because when you see someone obese. You automatically believe that they're not going to live long.

It's like someone with cancer. You just know the inevitable because its to far gone.

On one hand, this seems kinda mean. Nothing too out of the ordinary for the internet(or humanity in general) but I wouldn't like this done to me or a loved one.

On the other hand, in the clip above when the girls are introducing themselves and describing what they do for a living she says she's a "certified bad bitch" and when pushed on it for almost a full minute about what that is she throws out a ton of word salad including "A woman who… does whatever she wants for herself, nobody else." Between that and her morbid obesity, she seems to be showcasing some toxic and self-destructive behavior and there's nothing wrong with condemning that.

I'll also throw in, there is a big difference between being a little chubby or overweight and… this. One can happen through a normal but sedentary and consumeristic lifestyle, the other indicates you have some severe demon and/or vices. I understand that mental health can play a part as do some very rare medical conditions, but I think what makes something like this so universally repulsive is that getting to this size is something you do to yourself vs something that happens to you.

My diet consists of food desserts and other such toxic waste and no, it doesn't make me anyhow fat.
It's all about how MUCH you eat and whenever you do anything to burn through that food.
If any of those Hutt clans were to eat as much as I do, I can guarantee you, all of them, without a fault would get back in shape in a year, two years tops, without as much as lifting a finger to exercise.

Every time I see a clip from this podcast (which happens more often that I'd like) it's vapid beyond human comprehension. I just watched this girl talk for a minute and I couldn't tell you what she was trying to say. I guess she is obese, cool, whatever, but what is that cold vacuum of meaning in the eldritch podcasting chamber

Umm Gorlock didnt look big because he was sitting next to "smaller" people, he was sitting next to NORMAL size people and HE looks like a 5 ton whale. Lets be real. Its also extremely ironic that Gorlock is complaining about men not being "masculine enough" when HE'S literally a MAN pretending to be a woman. You really cant make this shit up.
