Yoshi and Toad Kissing or the PhantomArcade Kiss also known as Muppet Mouth Characters Making Out is a series of exploitable drawings of Yoshi and Toad from the Super Mario series and other blank template characters passionately kissing, their mouths appearing notably wide. The original Yoshi and Toad drawing was posted to X (Twitter) in June 2020 and went viral over the following years, becoming a popular redraw template in which Yoshi and Toad are replacing by other characters.

Origin

On June 10th, 2020, YouTuber^[12] OneyPlays posted the video "Slightly Artistic – Super Mario with @SrPelo," garnering over 2.3 million views in four years (shown below). Around the 45:53 mark, Dave, aka Phantom Arcade, presents two drawings of Toad and Yoshi from the Super Mario series kissing.

On June 13th, @PhantomArcade3K posted the drawings of to X^[1], writing, "for pride month," garnering over 13,000 likes and 2,000 reposts in four years (shown below).

Spread

On September 25th, 2021, u/funnylittlecharacter made a post to /r/196^[2] claiming they would get the drawing tattooed on themselves if they got 1,000 upvotes. The post received over 25,000 upvotes in three years. On September 28th, they made another post to /r/196^[3] showing their new tattoo, garnering over 55,000 upvotes in the same span of time (shown below).

The image also became the subject of redraws as early as 2022. For example, on May 19th, 2022, u/Peachy-my-ass16 posted a Splatoon redraw to /r/splatoon,^[4] garnering over1,500 upvotes in two years (shown below).

On February 13th, 2023, X^[5] user @shigeoreum posted a similar drawing to that of the Toad x Yoshi meme, writing, "i love when ppl draw kissing like this. makes me giggle and like yeah. it makes no sense and i agree," garnering over 67,000 likes and 4,600 reposts in 11 months. The post inspired numerous redraws through the quote-reposts and elsewhere online (examples from that month shown below).^[6][7]

On May 27th, X^[8] user @Kupahdraws posted another variation of the passionate kiss drawing, wirting, "i love when people just draw characters silly like but making out really passionately and sloppily its like my fav sub category of img," garnering over 28,000 likes and 3,400 reposts in eight months. Similarly, the post inspired numerous redraws in the quote-reposts and comments (examples from May 2023 shown below).^[9][10][11]
