This is why you always read the fine print before sprinting into a Category 5 hurricane based on the belief that streaming yourself doing so will net you $70,000: There is a chance no one has offered you $70,000 to stream yourself in the middle of a Category 5 hurricane.

Kick streamer MikeSmallsJr learned this the hard way when he made his way to Florida to document his survival of Hurricane Milton, thinking Adin Ross had put out an open challenge for any streamer to film themselves surviving the brunt of the storm.

In the midst of the dire conditions, Smalls got a message from Ross in his Twitch chat saying he had made no such offer and implored Smalls to evacuate (he also called him "George Flood," an apparent reference to George Floyd).

Ross had joked on a recent stream that he would pay his friends, streamers sweater god and Sambond, the prize money to stick through Milton and stream it, knowing they wouldn't do it. While some criticized Ross for potentially putting people in danger, others blamed the would-be participants for their poor reading comprehension.

He explained the misunderstanding in a follow-up stream, as well as on Twitter / X, where he urged everyone to evacuate from the path of the hurricane.

Adin Ross' explanation

MikeSmallsJr was quite ticked after learning that there was no $70,000 prize waiting for him after putting his life in danger, claiming Adin Ross "scammed" him.

However, it appears Ross will be giving him something — in a streamed conversation between the two, Ross said he would give MikeSmallsJr $10,000 for getting to safety.
