Baseball Fans Erupt With Joy After Reports Say The MLB Lockout Is Over
Just when things started looking very grim for baseball fans worried that the MLB lockout might take away another season, the owners and players reached an agreement earlier today that ensures they will still get a 162-game season this year.
MLB reporters began breaking the news on Twitter at around 3:15 p.m. EST this afternoon. The news ends a 99-day lockout that threatened to extend indefinitely, and things began to look particularly bad after owners began canceling games in the opening week of the season over the past few days. Today's agreement ensures fans will still see a 162-game season, with Opening Day scheduled for April 7th. The missed games will be made up with doubleheaders later in the season.
BREAKING: Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association have reached a tentative agreement on a new labor deal, sources tell ESPN. While it still needs to be ratified by both parties, that is expected to be a formality, and when it is:

About those doubleheaders: As part of the agreement, baseball will do away with the experimental rules implemented to speed up the game that included making doubleheader games seven innings instead of the traditional nine innings. They will also revert back to the extra-inning rules that have been a part of baseball for over a hundred years, eliminating the controversial decision to have the batting team start every extra inning with a runner on second base. Additionally, the MLB Playoffs will be expanded to include 12 teams, up from 10.
Baseball is really back. Nine inning doubleheaders and regular extra inning rules return. Man on 2nd is a thing of the past.

More nitty-gritty details of the new agreement can be read on ESPN, as baseball enters what is sure to be a chaotic month of spring training and free agency. For now, fans are overjoyed that they'll see a full season of baseball (unless, of course, their team stinks), and showed their excitement through memes and other reactions online today.
