Last Friday, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, passed away at the age of 99. The news was reported in various ways by the press: some outlets gave the Prince fawning hagiographies, while others were critical of the Prince's legacy. However, no outlet reported the news quite like BBC Radio 1, who quite literally dropped the news about Prince Philip's death in the middle of a techno mix.

The news dropped during BBC Radio 1's "Dance Anthems" playlist, and the clash of tones was instantly ripe for memers as the clip got around. Hours after the announcement, Twitter user @RuairiKeogh1 dropped a remix of the moment that sandwiched the announcement between two house bangers.

At that point, TikTok was off to the races, using the sound to generate their own dances mourning/celebrating the Prince's death.

The BBC was criticized for its wall-to-wall coverage of Prince Philip's death, even going so far as to set up a specific complaint room for people who were tired of hearing about it on every BBC channel. One wonders how many ravers were in that room to complain about their buzz getting killed.
