Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh died today at the age of 70 after a months-long battle with advanced lung cancer. The news was announced by his wife on his show this morning.

Limbaugh was a conservative talk-radio icon for much of his career and received a Presidential Medal of Freedom from Donald Trump. For better or worse, Limbaugh will be remembered as one of the key voices in shaping American political discussion in the past several decades. He spent his 30+ years in broadcasting shaping the Republican conversation, pinning names on liberals and sometimes pushing conspiracy theories.

In 2003, Limbaugh resigned from ESPN after opining Eagles QB Donovan McNabb was overrated because the media wanted to see black athletes doing well. In 2016, he promoted a conspiracy that Barack Obama was sending Lesbian Farmers to rural states to make them vote Democratic. Later that year, he was caught buying into a clear Twitter troll from a user joking he was working as a postal worker and destroying Trump ballots.

Following reports of his death, many of his detractors took to social media, leading his name to trend on Twitter alongside the phrase "good riddance."
