COVID 5G Conspiracy Theorists (Maybe) Mistake Schematic For Boss Metal Zone Guitar Pedal As 5G Chip In COVID Vaccine

A 5G COVID Conspiracy Theorist thought they were on to something when they believed they'd uncovered a schematic illustrating how the 5G chip included in the coronavirus vaccine. Sadly, the only thing that would be injected by the image presented is the classic sick tone loved (and loathed) by guitarists everywhere.

A bizarre story started in Italy late last month, as some COVID 5G truthers shared an image they believed showed the 5G chip included in the COVID vaccine but was actually the schematic for the Boss Metal Zone guitar pedal.

Here in Italy people started to share this figure claiming that this is the diagram of the 5G chip that has been inserted in the covid vaccine.

The post featuring the schematic and the erroneous theory do exist, but it finely treads the line of Poe's Law. The author goes through what the various labels in the schematic mean, but the explanations are so ridiculous, they read like parody. "The BASS and TREBLE controls adjust the instructions that can be heard in the head," goes one sentence (roughly translated from Italian). "You will notice that there is also the FOOTSWITCH control on the graph, it serves to hide in different parts of the body during the daily movement, recognizing the pressure points on the leg," goes another.

While the authorial intent of the post is unclear, the internet ran with it as though it were sincere. After all, many don't regard the 5G COVID conspiracy theorists as completely altogether, and such a hilarious misconception was more fun to joke about than investigate.

After Twitter users found out about the story, the jokes flew fast.

Adding to the hilarity for musicians is the reputation the Metal Zone has among guitar players. The Metal Zone is often seen as a beginner's guitar pedal. As Consequence of Sound put it, "The Guitar Center used-bin staple is a pedal that’s been a longtime meme in the guitar world for how bad (or amazing, depending who you ask) it sounds. It’s the pedal that you get your 13-year-old to pair with their Line 6 amp and beginners’ Stratocaster."

Alas, the COVID-19 vaccine will not inject you with a Metal Zone distortion pedal, though let's be real: that would be pretty sick.
