Once again, President Donald Trump found himself in a strange Twitter episode on Friday, after retweeting supposed praise from his sister Elizabeth Trump Grau. Unfortunately, the praise came from a parody account posing as his sister.

"Thank you, Elizabeth, LOVE!" tweeted the President, sharing an article by the conservative radio program The Wayne Dupree Show that featured the quote by the parody account.

The tweet in question comes from the recently suspended account @thebettytrump. The wrote in a since-deleted tweet:

This election inspired me to break my silence and speak out on behalf of my family. My brother Don won this election and will fight this to the very end. We’ve always been a family of fighters. We are all so very proud of him and the job he has done for our country. 4 MORE YEARS!

The account soon responded to the president's tweet, stating that they were not actually Elizabeth Trump Grau.

"I would’ve clarified sooner that I was a parody," @thebettytrump wrote before suspension, "but I certainly didn’t anticipate President Trump himself taking notice of the account."

After fact-checkers looked into the profile and discovered it fraudulent, Wayne Dupree media updated the article to reflect their mistake. However, they did not remove the tweet's text by the account or their words leading into the tweet. They wrote in a statement:

This tweet was widely shared online and covered by other publications.

While this has not been officially “fact-checked” by social media executives and professionals, we’re hearing from many others that this is not actually the account of Ms. Elizabeth Trump, but is actually a parody account.

If this is true, we deeply regret the error and apologize.

We’ll leave it up with this update, and wait for official fact-checkers to weigh in.

It is never our intent to “fool” anyone, or spread misinformation. We’re human, and sometimes get fooled by the mountain of incorrect and doctored info shared online these days. We’ll work and strive to do better.

Elizabeth Trump Grau later confirmed to Vice News that she did not make the post and was actively trying to have it removed.

"I’m trying to delete," a woman claiming to be Trump Grau told Vice News. "I don't even belong to Twitter."

"I have no statement. I’m just annoyed about this whole thing."
