Elon Musk's Poem About Space Gives Twitter Much To Think About And Meme On
Elon Musk, while very rich, is not exactly known for having deep thoughts, but he nevertheless tried his hand at one late last Monday when he tweeted a small poem about space.
those who attack space
maybe don’t realize that
space represents hope
for so many people— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 13, 2021
The poem is likely a reference to criticisms Musk and his billionaire brethren Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson have faced for funding personal journeys to outer space rather than investing their enormous wealth in humanitarian causes such as combatting world hunger or fighting climate change. However, Musk's humble poem seemed to do little to sway his critics, who responded with poems of their own.
and yet other people
would simply like billionaires
to pay their taxes
and fix earth’s problems https://t.co/JNAT07qeEn— Don Moynihan (@donmoyn) July 13, 2021
People who defend space
Maybe don’t realize that
When space represents hope
It’s because earth fucking sucks
Help earth https://t.co/iPxiVyzPIE— Funch in Nashville July 23-24 (@RonFunches) July 13, 2021
Perhaps billionaires
Could solve problems on earth
Rather than race to space
For their egos https://t.co/SmtIc2q7VQ— Laura Brehm (@laurakbrehm) July 13, 2021
Others were more pointed in their criticism, and took to sharply implying that Musk should invest his space race money elsewhere.
No one’s attacking space. We’re attacking the fact that billionaires are exploiting workers, avoiding taxes, & getting Govt handouts while 80% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck & 60M Americans are food insecure.
You aren’t the victim here bud. https://t.co/mqGP0u340t— Qasim Rashid, Esq. (@QasimRashid) July 13, 2021
Replace “space” with “a living wage” https://t.co/puK2KTWNWj

While it seems that Musk is certainly aware people are criticizing him, Musk still seems to have plans to go to space—albeit on a Virgin rocket, not a Tesla one.
