A memorial mural to the late YouTuber Desmond "Etika" Amofah is now an official Pokémon Go PokéStop, concluding a months-long fan-driven campaign to give it the distinction.

The mural, located on Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn, New York, features portraits of Etika as well as references to his impact, including Switch controllers, references to Super Smash Bros., and a shoutout to his fanbase, the Joycon Boyz. The project was led by YouTuber Double A and designer Abe Hunter, and shortly after its completion in November of 2019, fellow YouTuber Reversal began campaigning to have the mural added to Pokémon GO as a Pokéstop.

The campaign initially didn't gain traction, but through the rollout of the Niantic Wayfarer program, which allows Pokémon GO players over level 40 to submit real-world locations for consideration to be PokéStops, the Etika mural was finally added on February 24th, 2020.

Speaking to Vice, Reversal said, "I knew how much this would have meant to Desmond since he loved Pokémon GO. Knowing Desmond's fanbase it would be mean so much to everyone to have this included in the game, especially since Pokémon Go is a companion app that people use on their day-to-day lives including the Joycon Boyz."
