Well-known television personalities in their homeland, the Bogdanoff twins achieved global recognition in memes in April 2015 after their photograph went viral on Reddit's /r/WTF subreddit. From there, the twins were picked up by 4chan, where a meme about the Bogdanoffs controlling entire governments from the shadows soon formed.
The twins rose even further in meme popularity among the trading crowd after YouTuber Bizonacci turned Igor and Grichka into villainous puppet masters of the cryptocurrency market in his series of meme videos on cryptocurrency trading. Igor, in particular, is known to many as the person holding the phone in "Dump Eet" and "Pump Eet" reaction images.
According to AFP, the family of the presenter did not wish to disclose the cause of his death.
