Yesterday's PlayStation showcase had several high-profile announcements that seemed to delight much of the internet, but it'd be difficult to argue that the biggest hype-generating surprise was a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater — one of Konami's most beloved action games.

Dubbed Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, the remake will feature the original voice actors, including David Hayter as Snake. Also, the first three Metal Gear Solid games, including the original Snake Eater, will release in online stores in the fall of 2023 as part of a collection dubbed Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1.

Judging from the reactions on social media, a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake was not on many viewers' bingo cards for yesterday's showcase, but it appears to have been extremely well-received so far.

MGS 3 serves as a prequel of sorts to the Metal Gear Solid series, taking place decades before the events of Metal Gear Solid and featuring younger versions of recurring characters, including Revolver Ocelot and Eva.

Released in 2004, the game is widely regarded among the series' best, as its memorable plot, setting and gameplay have helped it stand out from some of the series' other titles.

It is also one of the most memed entries in the Metal Gear series. In addition to its incredible theme song, which still gets referenced in memes involving long ladder climbs to this day, it's also the inspiration for classics including Crab Battle and Snake's tactical advantage copypasta.

There's no release date yet for Metal Gear Solid Δ, but considering the warm reception other PlayStation 5 remakes like Demon's Souls and Resident Evil 4 have had, expectations will be high for a Snake Eater remake.
