The "#ReleaseTheSnyderCut" movement gained two big followers this weekend: Wonder Woman and Batman.

Celebrating the second anniversary of Justice League, the 2017 Zack Snyder-directed superhero team-up movie that only brought in a "disappointing" $657 million, the film's stars Gal Gadot and Academy Award-winner Ben Affleck, who played Wonder Woman and Batman, respectively, tweeted the magic hashtag: "#ReleaseTheSnyderCut," referring to a mythic director's cut of the film.

The stars join other cast members Jason Momoa and Ray Fisher, who portrayed Aquaman and Cyborg in the film, respectively, in their support for the director's cut release.

In 2017, Snyder left the production of Justice Leage due to the sudden death of his daughter, Autumn Snyder. WB hired Avengers-director Joss Whedon to complete the film in time for its November 2017 release.

However, because the film generated roughly $200 million less than its predecessor, the Syder-directed Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, many saw it as a commercial disappointment.

In the years since its release, a segment of Snyder's fans, who presumably enjoyed Dawn of Justice, a movie where Batman and Superman bond over having a mother named Martha and Lex Luger tricks a woman into drinking urine, have called for the release of Snyder's version of Justice League.

While Warner Bros. has yet confirmed the film's existence, Momoa, who starred in Aquaman, which earned more than $1 billion for the studio, has both claimed to have seen the cut and called for its release.

Earlier this month, he posted an alleged still from the film featuring Momoa's character stabbing the movie's villain Steppenwolf with his trident.

At the beginning of November, Momoa told MTV News that he had seen the Snyder Cut. During the interview, he said that Snyder not only finished an assemblage of the film's footage but also completed the effects. Snyder left production before the visual effects were complete.

Snyder, who hasn't directed since 2017 and was last reported to be at work on an adaptation of Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead, has been happy to fan the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut flames. Just yesterday, he responded to Gadot and Affleck's tweets on the matter.

Earlier this year, he told fans that he had completed the film but it was up to Warner Bros. to release the film.

The "Snyder Cut" has been something of a holy grail for fans of the DC superhero films. Following the release of Justice League, Snyder's supporters began calling for the release of Snyder's version of the film. Since then, #ReleaseTheSnyderCut has been a regular trending hashtag on Twitter, YouTube and other social platforms.

Is a push from the film's biggest stars enough to get a release for the Snyder Cut? Who knows. One would imagine that if a cut existed, it would've been released. After all, even 2010's much-reviled Green Lantern has an extended edition out on DVD.
