According to a tweet from Barstool Sports yesterday, the website of seafood fast-food chain Long John Silvers is in the top ten websites where people spend money across the entire internet.

Clocking in at number six ahead of Etsy and Home Depot, the inclusion of Long John Silvers on the list baffled many Twitter users, who expressed their confusion and amusement throughout the day.

Aside from the general reactions, several posters also speculated that Long John Silver's must be the front for a criminal organization, similarly to Los Pollos Hermanos in Breaking Bad. This idea is the basis of a long-running internet conspiracy theory, which proposes that "Long John Silver's exists to launder money made from the illicit sale of marijuana":":https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/long-john-silvers-conspiracy-theory. Many on TikTok, Reddit and other platforms have spread these conspiracies since they emerged back in 2019.

Several commentators even went so far as to demand an investigation of the relatively obscure fast-food chain in reaction to the development.

Many also joked about their love of Long John Silver's and the generous portions of fried food served there.

The brand of Long John Silver’s itself got involved, using the viral moment as a means to promote itself. Some also suggested that the whole thing may have been manufactured by Barstool Sports for the sake of publicity since the list might not have gotten as much interaction had the 10 items on it been totally predictable.
