McDonald's fabled Szechuan sauce, presented as the character Rick Sanchez' primary motivational drive in the latest season of Rick and Morty, has been reincarnated for a select few thanks to an outpouring of demand on social media.
During the final moments of the Rick and Morty season premiere aired in April, the mad scientist Rick Sanchez unleashed a passionate rant revealing his crazed obsession with a dipping sauce McDonald's supplied as a limited promotion for the Disney film Mulan in 1998. Following the episode, fans took to social media calling for the sauce to be released once again.
Last weekend, Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland received a special delivery of the sauce, packed along with a note indicating that the prized condiment had been hauled all the way from another dimension where it is always 1998. The package was timed to arrive the same day as the season's second episode was broadcast, just one week after Roiland revealed McDonald's would be sending him the gift during a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con.

Later that morning, McDonald's upped the ante by tweeting a photograph of three half gallon jugs, followed by the announcement that a few lucky fans could win the sauce by tweeting during their Periscope stream. After the three-hour video broadcast, the fast-food chain revealed that three winners had direct messages waiting in their Twitter inbox.
While it's currently unknown if McDonald's will issue a wider release of the sauce, the internet has made it abundantly clear that there is no shortage of demand.
