'Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door' Rerelease Headlines 'One Of The Nintendo Directs Of All Time'
Nintendo's follow-up to the Switch is rumored to be imminent, and while the company hasn't said a word about a sequel to its most successful home console, Direct presentations like the one this morning have some people thinking that a so-called "Switch 2" is right around the corner.
The game given top billing during this morning's Direct is a rerelease of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, the 2004 Paper Mario title some fans may consider the good one.
Princess Peach Showtime (a side-scrolling 3D adventure starring Nintendo's classic princess) also got a buzz-generating trailer, as did F-Zero 99 (a remix of the original F-Zero that turns the game into a racing battle royale).
Otherwise, the Direct was largely dominated by remakes, third-party titles, sequels to spin-off Nintendo franchises and DLC (the full list of games announced is on the Nintendo website).
Without a marquee announcement to rival that of Tears of the Kingdom (say, Metroid Prime 4), many viewers walked away feeling mildly underwhelmed — and convinced something huge is coming soon.
Still, the ever-cagey Nintendo has yet to confirm anything, so rumors of a Switch 2 – with more exciting games – remain merely speculation.
In the meantime, Nintendo fans can be excited that they can finally get their hands on Trombone Champ.
