Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and Queen Elizabeth II's husband, has died at 99, according to an announcement today from Buckingham Palace.

Buckingham Palace released a statement announcing that the prince died peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.

"It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle."

The palace said that further announcements would be made in due course.

Earlier in 2021, Prince Philip underwent successful heart surgery, leaving the hospital on March 16th and later spawning the Prince Philip Leaving Hosptial meme. Over the years, the Duke of Edinburgh has become the subject of many notable meme formats, such as Prince Philip at 99.
