Social Media Rocked By Story Of Widow Who Wrote Book About Grieving Her Late Husband, Only To Later Be Charged With His Murder
The Summit County Third District Court of Utah has charged Kouri Darden Richins, a 33-year-old mother of three, with the murder of her husband Eric Richins. This charge stands in stark contrast with the book she wrote about grieving the death of her husband, titled Are You With Me?
The children's book is described by Google Books as, "A heartwarming and reassuring book that gently guides children through the difficult experience of losing a loved one. Written by a loving mother who personally faced this challenge, this book is designed to offer comfort and solace to young minds in a way that is both accessible and engaging."
According to court documents reported on by KUTV, Richins is alleged to have poisoned her husband by mixing a massive amount of fentanyl into his drink in March of 2022. She published Are You With Me? on March 5th, 2023, three days after the one-year anniversary of his death.
The couple had been married for nine years and had three children together. There is no disclosed motive for the alleged murder, but police have been able to track messages between Richins and a drug dealer who was able to get her fentanyl in the weeks leading to Eric's death. Eric suspected his wife was trying to poison him after he became very ill at a Valentine's Day date the two had had two weeks prior to his death.
The story began gaining traction on social media after it was picked up by the New York Post. From there, social media began joking about the situation, particularly the fact that Richins published a book about grieving the death of her husband when she is alleged to have murdered him.
On Reddit, users in /r/TrueCrimeDiscussion have been having a field day with the wild tale. Twitter users have been firing off one-liners all morning.
This is not the first time a woman has murdered her husband and attempted to profit from his death. Incredibly, this is not even the first time a woman has published a book about the death of her husband that she (allegedly) murdered. In May of 2022, a Portland, Oregon woman was sentenced to prison for murdering her husband after publishing a book about his death. The book's name? How to Murder Your Husband.
