The 'Four Lads In Jeans' Meme Gets Turned Into A Statue For The Birmingham Big Weekender Event

A statue of the Four Lads In Jeans meme, one of Britain's most viral memes of the past few years, is making the rounds online after it was unveiled at the cultural festival called Birmingham's Big Weekender event this past Saturday.

The statue was created by artist Tat Vision, who made the bodies of the men using four women's mannequins and the heads out of papier-mache, painting it all bronze to give it a "nice, shiny bronze effect," he told Birmingham Live on the day it was unveiled.

He also posted several photographs from the event, including one of himself posing in front of the installation with three of the four famous lads.

Tat Vision is perhaps best known for his sculptures, which he crafts in a signature DIY, purposefully grotesque style. In the past, he's sculpted the heads of British politicians and Colonel Sanders in a similar style, bringing to mind memes like the infamous Cristiano Ronaldo bust or Potato Jesus restoration, only with full self-awareness.

The "Four Lads in Jeans" meme first went viral in 2020 and has since become one of the go-to ways to make jokes about the stereotypical "British lad." The meme spread quickly from England to North America that year and became a huge hit, even purportedly getting the lads a Netflix deal, although details on the production or release of that series have been sparse since it was announced in February last year.

Unfortunately, for fans of the meme that don't live in Birmingham, the statue was only a temporary installation created for the Birmingham Big Weekender event, which took place over the weekend from August 27th to the 28th, so don't go booking any plane tickets yet.
