The Matrix Resurrections Trailer Answers Some Questions While Creating New Ones
The much-anticipated trailer for The Matrix Resurrections was finally released at 9 a.m. EST this morning by way of the official Warner Bros YouTube channel. Since the unique approach to the teaser trailer through the WhatIsTheMatrix website, many have been anxiously awaiting this full trailer that was promised since Tuesday.
The website is now updated to no longer give users the choice between the red and blue pill, and instead has the trailer embedded into the site so it plays when you first visit it.
Upon clicking to close the trailer while on the website however, much more info has been added. The website now features buttons for the home screen, trailer, synopsis (which is very slim on info, not even showing information from the trailer on it) and a page for the universe of The Matrix. Clicking on the "universe" tab brings up a store page to look at and buy the three preceding movies, as well as view a PDF that shows various important elements from the first movie.
Early fan reaction to the trailer is massive. Within the first 30 minutes, the trailer was viewed on YouTube over 650,000 times, climbing to over three million in roughly two hours. On social media, it was already being heralded as the new-age standard for blockbusters, just as the first installment was.

With the third movie, Matrix Revolutions, neatly wrapping up the series with a resolution, the question on everyone's mind was how this new film would be able to co-exist in the pre-established world of The Matrix lore. The trailer helped shed light on this answer, with it showing that Neo, known as "Thomas Anderson" in the world within The Matrix, has a therapist that prescribes him to take Blue Pills every day, which are used to decrease your awareness of The Matrix, a callback to the first entry and a consistent theme throughout the series.
The questions that still remain are how Neo got into this state in the first place, whether he is still the sixth incarnation of "The One" or is now considered the seventh, and just where or how Morpheus would fit into everything, as Laurence Fishburne has confirmed he is not attached to the project at this time. Hopefully, the answer to everything is revealed on December 22nd when the movie releases in theaters and on HBO Max.
Aside from general hype about the trailer's release, a particular scene early on with Keanu Reeves sitting in a bathtub with a rubber ducky on his head has become an early breakout meme — reminiscent of Geralt in a Bathtub.
