Those expecting to see some sick double-sided lightsaber action in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi courtesy of the Star Wars equivalent of WWE's The Boogeyman will be left sorely disappointed, as recent news states the Disney+ series will not feature Darth Maul.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Darth Maul was initially expected to return, but was written out of the show in a creative overhaul that makes Darth Vader the big bad.

If your Star Wars knowledge is limited to the series cinematic releases, you may be confused as to how Darth Maul could even possibly return as an antagonist, considering he gets lightsabered in half and tossed down a giant hole in The Phantom Menace. Ranker gives the full rundown of Darth Maul's post-slicing life, but essentially he survives because he hates Obi-Wan very, very much. He went on to make appearances in The Clone Wars and the Star Wars Rebels television series.

Passionate Star Wars fans, on the whole, were surprisingly okay with the announcement there would be no Maul, feeling that the aforementioned television series, particularly Rebels, did the character justice.

While it looks like Star Wars fans won't be getting any more Darth Maul content soon, there may still be hope. As Rise of the Skywalker proved, anyone can be un-killed in Star Wars.
