C'mon, People, 'The Simpsons' Didn't Predict Trump's COVID Diagnosis

Another day, another headline, another theory that The Simpsons predicted the future. It's tiring, but it happens like clockwork.

With the news of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump positive coronavirus test, some online recirculated an image supposedly from The Simpsons of Trump in a coffin. One big problem with the rumor though: This image never appeared on the long-running cartoon.

According to Snopes, the image originated on 4chan several years ago. However, with the recent news, it's giving an encore for a bunch of tweets about the Simpsons predicting the president's death. While The Simpsons does have a long run of coincidental predictions, this isn't one of them.

The image is making the rounds on Twitter, where people wonder in amazement at The Simpsons' clarivoyance. Of course, at least in this case, that's not even remotely true, since the clip isn't from the show.

This year exhibited a number of these baseless Simpsons predictions, both from the series and from fan art. In March, people all over Twitter went wild over the fortune telling 1993 episode "Marge in Chains," which not only featured an Asian-born flu, but also murder hornets.

Clearly, people are just having a bit of fun. However, some other "predictions," like the Simpsons fan art people thought predicted George Floyd's Death, were less innocuous.

This isn't even the first time the Trump in a casket image creeped onto social media this year. In June, at the start of the protests for racial equality, the image punctuated a viral tweet featuring a Springfield mob burning down a police station.

So until tomorrow, when someone notices a flashing similarity between what they see online and an image that may or may not have once appeared on The Simpsons.
