Wall Street Returns To Monke As Harambe Statue Appears Across The Charging Bull
A bronze statue of Harambe the Gorilla, the famous ape who was shot and killed in 2016 at the Cincinnati Zoo and whose death, according to some, kicked off the modern era of memes, was placed on New York City's Wall Street, right across the famous Charging Bull.
The 7-foot-tall bronze statue of the gorilla appeared in Bowling Green Park on Monday. The statue, reportedly placed there by the founders of Sapien.Nework facing off the Charging Bull, is "dedicated to putting the needs and welfare of human beings first." To highlight their point, the group placed approximately 10,000 bananas under the Charging Bull, symbolizing how Wall Street has literally gone "bananas" in their greed and disregard for the average person.

The bananas won't go to waste though, as Sapien.Nework plans to donate the fruit to local food banks and community fridges.
In an interview with News 4 Monday, Sapien.Network co-founder Robert Giometti said, "It’s not about rejecting capitalism or the current system. It's about revolving them into the current future and letting them empower more groups of people. That's the whole point of this story."
Harambe became an internet sensation after on May 28th, 2016, the 17-year-old gorilla was fatally shot by a Cincinnati Zoo employee. The gorilla became a major topic of memes in 2016 and remained so long after, with users creating memes mourning the gorilla and honoring its memory in increasingly absurd ways — "Dicks Out for Harambe" just to name one.
