O panzer of the lake, what is your wisdom? More importantly, where do you come from?

For the last few years, the mystery and legend of the magical image macro Panzer of the Lake grew. Since its first appearance on Reddit in 2018, the photo of a soldier apparently wishing upon a tank submerged in water, people have wondered where this thing came from and what happened to that tank?

The YouTube channel ConeOfArc believes that they have the answer. Thanks to a discovery by Discord user Miller786, the channel's latest video places the tank's location as Meuse River in Namur, Belgium, roughly 60 miles southeast of Brussels.

In the video "WE FOUND Panzer of the Lake!" ConeOfArc explains that the tank attempted to cross the river on May 13th, 1940. Following the destruction of the Yvoir Bridge a day earlier, a battalion of German soldiers attempted to ferry a fleet of tanks across the Meuse River using a 16-ton watercraft. After several successful crossings for other tanks of similar weight, the 25-ton tank from the photo made its way across by ferry, when it mysteriously fell into the river.

"The ferry begins to list and the tank onboard quickly shifts causing uneven distribution across the surface," the narrator recounts. "The strain causes a breaking point, and the tank splashes into the water."

Why the tank sank remains a mystery. The narrator reports that it was likely due to the weight of the Panzer or from enemy fire. The tank would not be recovered until 1941 when the trail runs cold. ConeOfArc theorizes that the tank was either scrapped or sent back to the factor. But we all know what really happened: It was meme'd.

If you'd like to read more about the findings, the full report is available in a Google Doc.
