Fourteen years ago today, a mysterious 20-something writer from Michigan decided to create a tongue-in-cheek website dedicated to the awesome powers of ninjas, all in the voice of a 13-year-old fanboy, little knowing that his silly comedy project would go on to become the foundation of an Internet literary movement known as the "fratire" genre.

Eight years ago this week, an aspiring singer from the village of Zvezdelina in southern Bulgaria auditioned for the singing competition TV show Music Idol with her truly one-of-a-kind cover of Badfinger's classic soft rock hit "Without You," little knowing that she'd be remembered as one of the first viral video celebrities to be born on YouTube.
