I'll throw in calling soccer "football" if you'll also agree that potato chips are the thin crunchy ones and what you call "chips" are actually fries

We have fries here too because they are entirely different from chips, chips are much thicker! Also if we were to start calling crisps potato chips then what would the name be for the many non-chip shaped corn and potato snacks like space raiders, monster munch, wotsits, quavers and nik naks?!

However just off the sole basis that black pudding and steak and kidney pudding have zero things in common I am inclined to let you have the first point.
