My Hot Witch Wife is a series of exploitable redraw memes based on a behind-the-scenes photo from Bride of Chucky showing Jennifer Tilly as Tiffany reviving Chucky, who is lying in a pentagram while Tilly holds a candle and the book "Voodoo for Dummies." In 2020, the photo was labeled with the captions "my hot witch wife" over Tilly and "me doing whatever the hell she wants" over Chucky, inspiring redraws over the following years.

Origin

In 1998, Bride of Chucky was released. In one scene, Jennifer Tilly's character Tiffany revives Chucky by placing him in a pentagram and reciting a spell from the book "Voodoo for Dummies" (shown below).^[1]

In 2008, a behind-the-scenes photo of the scene showing both Tilly and Chucky in the same frame was posted to IMDB^[2] (shown below, left). On June 22nd, 2019, 9GAG^[3] user pantysmasher posted a version of the image labeling Tilly "a cute goth girl" and Chucky "me doing whatever the hell she wants," garnering over 3,600 upvotes in four years (shown below, center). On December 5th, 2020, Instagram^[4] page nightchannels posted a version changing Tilly's caption to "my hot witch wife," garnering over 5,800 likes in three years (shown below, right).

Spread

The memes gained viral spread across social media, also inspiring redraws. On December 12th, 2020, X^[5] user @GothelMatisse posted a redraw that gained over 4,700 likes in three years (shown below, left).

On June 14th, 2021, Instagram^[6] user housecraftofficial reposted a redraw of the meme by X artist @its_merrycherry, garnering over 4,700 likes in two years. The meme was posted to numerous other pages on Facebook, Instagram and Reddit around the same time, including a post to /r/196^[7] that gained over 19,000 upvotes in the same span of time. On June 27th, the original artist made a post to X^[8] sharing their frustration over people reposting the meme without proper credit, garnering over 1,600 likes in two years.

On the same day, X^[9] artist @sihanjir posted a redraw of the meme, garnering an unknown number of likes before it was deleted. It was reposted to the Mess with the Waifu, Get the Knifu Facebook^[10] page in July 2023 and the Okami Anime Facebook^[11] page in October 2023, garnering over 103,000 reactions on the former and 13,000 reactions and 3,900 shares on the latter in two months (shown below).
