I assume that the more liked an Animal Crossing character will be, the more quirks will be added later. Like Kapp'n will be revealed to be some sort of admiral in some animal world war and Rover is actually a deity who looks over the universe or something.

…Or something like Celeste really likes bugs or something, especially ones that freak Blathers out the most.
