Probably because he's such an asshole focusing on the statistics of individual pokemon. Like Joey's top percentage rattata but he he demands top percentage everything.

A ban is still a ban. Which makes more sense: Banning Mega Metagross because of its speed, bulk and power or banning Charmander Charmander because your pals can't get one.
