This is actually similar to what happened with Adventure Time. The show was originally pitched to Nickelodeon and the pilot even aired as a part of a Nick series that showcased pilots, but Nick never picked the show up for a series so Penn Ward pitched it to Cartoon Network and they were the ones who greenlit it.
