I think the reason why so many people like Bakugo despite the fact that he's a asshole is because he's a very different rival character.

For exemple, he wants to be a hero and will not be tempted or tricked into joining the dark side. I'm looking at you Sasuke!

He actually admits when others are right and can swallow his pride when the situation needs him to swallow his pride. I'm looking at you Vegeta!

His bite is as bad or much worse then his bark.

Basically he's a very interesting shonen rival character that acts very different then the usual shonen rival.
