I really like this comic, but to me it raises the question, once we dismantle this clearly dangerous and self-destructive view on masculinity, what will we replace it with? My thought on this is what I call "Mr. Rogers Masculinity" where the goal is not to suppress your emotions, but rather to learn to accept them and channel them in healthy ways. This kind of emotional regulation was often a theme in "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood," where whenever a character was feeling some strong emotion, be it anger, sadness, frustration, or fear, the first thing Mr. Rogers would do is tell them that it was okay to feel that emotion, reassuring them that their feelings are valid, before directing them towards finding a method by which they can safely and effectively communicate their feelings and use them to address the source of the problem that's causing the character distress. I think that there are a lot of things both children and adults can learn from rewatching "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood." His themes of empathy and self-acceptance are becoming increasingly necessary as society becomes more tribalistic and outrage-driven in recent years.
