For Mama is a four-panel exploitable webcomic of a woman failing to convince her child to eat for the child's parents. However, in the final panel, people replace what the woman says with something humorous or absurd, which convinces the child to eat.

Origin

On May 31st, 2018, illustrator Chilikto tweeted ^[3] a comic in response to a Russian meme created by a comedic movie review^[1] of the film Going Vertical.^[2] In the comic, the mother asks the child to eat, first for its parents. However, when she asks the child to eat "for himself and for Sashka," a joke about a line from the film, the child bites her hand. The post (shown below) received more than 820 retweets and 4,500 likes in two months.

Spread

Several days later, on June 2nd, Redditor^[5] LonelyAstartes posted an English-language variation of the comic, in which the child will eat when the mother says, "For the emperor." The post (shown below, left) received more than 1,800 points (96% upvoted) in less than two months.

On June 5th, Chilikto tweeted^[4] a number of Russian-language variations of the comic. They captioned the post "Моё культурное наследие" (translation: "My cultural heritage.") The post (shown below, center) received more than 20 retweets and 700 likes in less than two months.

Three days later, Redditor^[6] Suepermax posted a variation in the /r/HistoryMemes subreddit about Germany in 1933. The post (shown below, right) received more than 3,900 points (98% upvoted) and 55 comments in a month and a half.

The following month, on June 9th, a photoshopped version of the comic was published by Redditor Fan_of_the_Pikachu in the r/RoughRomanMemes^[7] subreddit. Within 24 hours, the post (shown below) received more than 1,100 points (99% upvoted).
