Maractus is another of those bland grass-type Pokemon nobody remembers. Every format it is in, Cacture is allowed because their role is very niche. Even Chesnaught's pre-evolution is considered more viable thanks to being able to hold eviolith and respectable bulk to set up Spikes more consistently.
While as a suicide lead it is even outclassed by Venipede because speed boost.
