ENCHANTMEN 1 year ago (edited) My brother got me Awakening for christmas. I've never played a JRPG-style game before. It's been... an experience The only other turn based strategy I've ever played was XCOM, which is a game where you lead soldiers to fight aliens and sometimes zombies, which, as far as I can tell, is basically what you do in this (they're foreigners, so they're technically aliens, right?) I started playing it like I was playing XCOM. In other words, sitting your ass down and slowly creeping across the map killing enemies one at a time with overwatch traps. I slowly inched everyone such that one unit was barely into range of the enemy. For maximum effectiveness, I would have it be one of the most powerful units (I.E. me) and put other powerful units (L.E. Mr. Blue Haired Protagonist Man) next to them so they get adjacency and support bonuses I did not realize that there was a romance mechanic By the time I did, I was already f------ married Apparently this f------ game is a goddamm visual novel dating sim that murdered a strategy game is now wearing its skin like a mask But I kept playing. Later there's some kind of future time travel b------- and I meet my kids from the future (somehow?). I'm sitting there wondering who the hell thought it would be a good idea to let you pair up units and then go into battle with their children Then I meet Morgan Hello, meet Morgan. He's a sweettwelve year old kid who enjoys reading, spending time with his mother, and CRUSHING HIS ENEMIES, SEEING THEM DRIVEN BEFORE HIM AND HEARING THE LAMENTATIONS OF THEIR WOMEN So get this, not only did he apparently inherit godly stats from his parents, he also inherited the "lgnis" skill from me and the "Rightful King" skill from his father. Ignis is basically a mini-crit that has a percent chance to activate equal to his skill stat, which started at like 25 or something. Rightful King adds a flat 10% chance for any skill to activate. Add in his already pretty high crit chance, and he basically does extra damage on top of his already ludicrous damage "IT'S TIME TO EVEN THE ODDS, said Morgan, every single f------ turn of the game Then he effortlessly murders someone twice his age WITH F------ MIND BULLETS So I get to the end of the second act, and there's a big dramatic battle between us and the forces of the Big Bad Evil Conquering Emperor of Doom. We go through our usual routine which is that me and my family murder everything while everyone else tries not to get themselves killed. However, I accidentally position Morgan to close to the Big Bad Emperor at the end of my turn Enemy turn starts, this demonic looking guy in red armor on a warhorse prepares to charge Me: "Morgan! Watch out! Behind you!" Morgan: "i got u fam" Attack missed "IT'S TIME TO EVEN THE ODDS CRIT Empeor dies in ONE HIT during HIS OWN F------ TURN >Morgan sits dramatically onto a throne made of the SKULLS OF HIS ENEMIES (maybe that part didn't happen, but it should have) l ain't even mad I think I'm taking enjoyment out of this game in a way that was not intended
