What makes this work so well is that if you were to present this to someone who knows nothing of Pokemon but are aware of the many generations existing, they would indeed think this is accurate and not jumbled up up until the last one, thus proving that there is conceptually no difference between old and new designs other than the different artist themselves and their styles, thus redering any "gen 1 designs were more creative" observations invalid. Image OP even refrained from mentioning Voltorb, Grimer and Ditto, so they even went easy on it.
