If the previous games that have come out are anything to go by, expect SwSh to hold your hand on a cutscene monorail from start to finish, and afterward have a non-existent post-game.

Personally, Sun & Moon were some of my favorite entries in the whole franchise. And believe it or not, it was for the "cutscene monorail", as you put it. Why? Cause I actually liked the story and characters of Sun & Moon. Lillie became one of my favorite characters in the whole franchise and so did Lusamine, Guzma, Prof. Kukui and others. I also love the setting. Alola is filled to the brim with charm and personality.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that people get into these games for different reasons. I, for example, value the journey a lot more than the post-game. All I ask is that the Gym Leaders and the Elite Four aren't a cake-walk.
