Ironically, it was the opposite for me. My 12-year-old self just did not register Renamon or just about any anthro-looking character as anything sexual, even for those that tried to make it obvious like Rouge. It was waaaaay later somewhere entering my 20's when that was a thing. As you may be able to guess, this was after some hefty internet exposure to the concept in question.
