That may be new in the West, but that is why in Japan idols have to sign contracts where they state they will not get into a relationship because companies fear losing their investment if a relationship is discovered. Aya Hirano was the biggest scandal I've ever seen because she didn't have a boyfriend, she is just very very promiscuous, like "you grab, you get" promiscuous. She almost don't gets new roles anymore.
