This made me think, I love Monster Rancher (at least the games, never watched the anime much), but, boy, Suezo is an awful choice of mascot. First impressions matter and choosing one of the ugliest monsters as the mascot didn't help at all with the popularity of a franchise that already had to deal with the stigma of being perceived as a follow the leader of Pokemon.
