Their protesting has at least brought them attention and support from the world and has shown people the violence should not be met with violence. Gandhi and MLK were right about this.


If the HK protestors were as violent as those in Minneapolis, this would give China an excuse to literally scorch the place to the ground. Unlike the US, China is more willing to gun down anyone who upsets social order, or does Tiannanmen Square not sound familiar to you?

Police in this country have the legal power to scrub their records of wrongdoing after investigations into their misconduct to protect their reputations. Police stations and precincts often treat good cops speaking out against bad or corrupt cops as "rats" and pariahs, even if the bad ones are outliers. Prosecutors are often reluctant or unwilling to investigate police officers, so the departments have to prosecute their own staff a lot of the time. The accountability system in this country is fucked, and that's what causes this shit to be more widespread than it should be.
