Honestly speaking this doesn't remotely surprise me given the fact that New York would be one of the places most at risk for terrible riots, and the NYPD is known to act authoritarian on a good day, and does not give a shit about the constitution. So they likely just want everyone off the streets, and I doubt they have the time or the proper patients to try to ask everyone there why they are out there and too keep track of the actual peaceful protesters and the opportunists.

Even with saying all that, I still think it is wrong of them to target any peaceful protest group.

Officer: "Sir…this man is black, what do I do?"
Supervisor: "Light him up"
